The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) defended its counter-insurgency and peace-building efforts after farmers and rights groups protested at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City on Oct. 19 over alleged militarization and human rights violations in rural communities.
AFP spokesperson Col. Francel Margareth Padilla said allegations should be assessed based on verified information and evidence, stressing that complaints must undergo proper processes to ensure accountability for proven violations.
The protesters, led by KMP and joined by KARAPATAN, Katribu, BAYAN, and Kabataan among others demanded the withdrawal of military troops from rural communities and justice for 19 people killed in Toboso, Negros Occidental, six months earlier.
