The Armed Forces of the Philippines confirmed that the People's Liberation Army-Navy conducted actual naval drills near Bajo de Masinloc on July 31 and Aug. 1, involving five warships, a replenishment ship, two hovercraft, two helicopters, and fighter aircraft. The disclosure came despite an earlier NMC statement dismissing reports of Chinese drills in the area.
A Philippine Air Force F-27 patrol aircraft received radio communications from the PLA Navy and PLA Air Force while flying over Bajo de Masinloc on Aug. 1. The AFP said the aircraft challenged the presence of Chinese military assets in Philippine waters.
