According to observers, Nigerian Super Eagles, three times winners of the Africa Cup of Nations, should have done better than what was seen of them in the last couple of years. The Nigerian national team last won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2013 when the biannual (now quadrinnaial) tournament was hosted in South Africa and the feat was achieved under the tutelage of late Stephen Keshi who blended a mix of foreign and domestic league players to win the country its third unity cup.
