Advanced robotic system aids knee, hip replacement surgery
Apollo Hospitals in Chennai has expanded its orthopaedic department by integrating Mako SmartRobotics for knee and hip replacement surgeries. The system uses 3D imaging and robotic arms to assist surgeons in achieving higher precision during procedures.

Apollo Hospitals, Greams Road, has expanded its robotic-assisted orthopaedic programme with the use of an advanced robotic system for knee and hip replacement procedures.
The programme uses Mako SmartRobotics from Stryker, along with three-dimensional CT imaging and detailed pre-operative planning, to help surgeons assess a patient’s anatomy and plan bone preparation and implant positioning before surgery.
During the procedure, a robotic arm assists the surgeon in executing the pre-operative plan. The system is designed to provide additional information and control during surgery, while treatment decisions and surgical judgement remain with the operating surgeon.
