Admissions at Garividi veterinary college stopped over staff shortage, says SFI

Leaders of the Student Federation of India (SFI) on Wednesday criticised the State government for “failing to fill regular teaching posts” at the veterinary college in Garividi in Vizianagaram district and instead running the institution with staff appointed on deputation and contract basis. They said the Veterinary Council of India (VCI) had consequently stopped admissions for the 2026-27 academic year.

In a statement, SFI State president P. Ramamohan and State secretary K. Prasanna Kumar said a large number of students from various districts and remote villages across the State sought admission to the college. The students had hoped to receive quality education, particularly with classrooms, hostel facilities and other basic infrastructure having been improved in recent times. However, the government’s approach had dashed their hopes and could force many students to move out of the State for veterinary education, they said.
