(Nairobi, Kenya) — The Addis Ababa City Council reappointed Adanech Abebe to lead the municipal executive for a new five-year term during the opening session of its 7th-term, 1st-year assembly on September 30, 2026.
The municipal legislature retained its incumbent Speaker and Deputy Speaker in their respective parliamentary positions before officially administering the oath of office to Mayor Adanech.
Following her confirmation, Mayor Adanech unveiled a reorganized municipal cabinet introducing 14 newly appointed executive officials.
Under the new executive alignment, former Deputy Mayor Jantirar Abay stepped down, with former Dessie City Mayor Samuel Mollaligne appointed as Deputy Mayor and Head of the Planning and Development Bureau. Mayor Adanech assigned senior leadership across key municipal bureaus, designating Million Mathewos as Head of the Works and Skills Bureau with the rank of Deputy Mayor.
