Special Chief Secretary to Government, Industries and Commerce (Handlooms and Textiles), R.P. Sisodiya, said that accurate prediction of disasters is the foundation of effective disaster management, and it plays a crucial role in saving lives and reducing damage. Mr. Sisodia made the remarks while addressing Probationary Deputy Collectors undergoing induction training at Andhra Pradesh Human Resource Development Institute (APHRDI) in Mangalagiri on Monday.
Delivering a lecture on disaster preparedness and response, Mr. Sisodiya said that forecasting a disaster's timing, duration and intensity enables authorities to plan the mobilisation of manpower, equipment and essential resources well in advance. He stressed that disaster management should focus as much on preparedness as on emergency response, with timely early warning systems and effective communication ensuring safe evacuation of vulnerable communities.
