Aaron Judge not included on Yankees' ALDS roster to face Rays
New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge has been left off the team's ALDS roster to face the Tampa Bay Rays. Manager Aaron Boone stated the decision was made to allow Judge more recovery time from a calf strain to ensure he is fully healthy for a potential World Series run.
Why it matters
The absence of a star player significantly impacts the competitive outlook for a major professional sports team during the postseason.
New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge will not play in the AL Divisional Series against the Tampa Bay Rays after he was excluded from the team's 26-man roster on Saturday.
"I decided that keeping him off was the best thing," Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters hours before Game 1. "I feel like he's getting close, but I feel like for us to get a version of Aaron back and to win a World Series, I feel like this week's important for him to continue to work towards getting back."
Boone added Judge was close to returning and that the team could have added him as a pinch-hitter, but they decided the extra time to rest was more valuable for his recovery.
