SRINAGAR: AAI on Saturday withdrew its proposed closure of Srinagar airport on Mondays-Tuesdays from July 1-Sept 30 and plans for a full closure from Oct 1-16. The closure was planned for “runway maintenance and other repairs” by IAF, which operates the airfield.J&K CM Omar Abdulah expressed “gratitude to govt of India for its prompt and positive response to the concerns regarding the proposed runway closure”.The two-week shutdown was expected to impact the Union Territory’s tourism sector as it coincides with the peak Durga puja holiday season, a period that typically sees a large influx of tourists, particularly from Bengal.Omar had personally taken up the issue with Centre. “The decision ensures uninterrupted air connectivity to the region, preventing disruption to travel, tourism and economic activity,” he said.He reiterated that maintaining seamless air connectivity was vital for J&K’s economy, particularly during the peak tourist season, and thanked Centre for responding promptly.Get the latest India news and live updates.
