‘A third peak’: De Villiers on Kohli’s aggressive ODI approach ahead of 2027 WC
Former cricketer AB de Villiers has praised Virat Kohli's aggressive approach in ODIs, describing his current form as a 'third peak' in his career. De Villiers also expressed optimism for the upcoming 2027 World Cup in South Africa.
Why it matters
Kohli's performance is a major talking point in international cricket, influencing team strategies and fan expectations for future global tournaments.
AB de Villiers is delighted to see his old friend and Royal Challengers Bengaluru teammate Virat Kohli flourish in ODIs, the only format in which he now plays for India. In the opening ODI against West Indies at Thiruvananthapuram, Kohli smashed an unbeaten 139 off 88 balls, hitting nine sixes and 10 fours to steer India through a 296-run chase with eight wickets to spare.Asked what had changed in Kohli’s ODI game, de Villiers said, "I have been following his progress with a lot of interest and it makes me very happy to see the way he's performing, especially keeping in mind that the 2027 World Cup is just around the corner. And what stands out to me is the aggressive nature of his approach these days.
