‘A pedestrian signal is needed at MM Nagar Municipality Office Road junction’
Residents of Maraimalai Nagar are calling for a dedicated pedestrian signal at a busy junction on GST Road to improve safety. Despite previous accidents and community requests, authorities have only installed vehicle-signalled facilities, leaving pedestrians to navigate dangerous traffic.

At the Maramalai Nagar Municipality Office Road junction, motorists from Singaperumal Koil enter the service lane, take a U-turn on GST Road, and enter Municipality Office Road; from Kattankalathur, vehicle users take a U-turn. In addition, two-wheeler riders on GST Road jump signals.
R. Bharat, a resident of Maraimalai Nagar, says, “Following an accident involving a woman we have been demanding that the traffic wing of the Tambaram Police Commissionerate facilitate a pedestrian signal, but a vehicle-signalled facility has been installed. Pedestrians cannot walk till the footbridge, come here, and go towards Kattankulathur. A pedestrian signal is needed. Pedestrians run and dodge vehicles.”
