Andhra Pradesh Minister Ponguru Narayana distributed housing land titles to 19 transgender individuals in Nellore. He also pledged additional financial support for house construction from his personal funds and government schemes.
Why it matters
This initiative highlights government efforts to provide social and economic inclusion for marginalized transgender communities in India.
Andhra Pradesh Minister of Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Ponguru Narayana on Monday (October 12, 2026) distributed housing pattas (land title deeds) to 19 transgender persons in the 4th Division of Nellore city. He promised housing pattas to all transgender people across the city soon.
Earlier in August, while the Minister was touring the 4th Division, transgender persons requested him to help them secure housing pattas. In response to their request, he alerted the Tahsildar, Joint Collector, and Municipal Commissioner and issued orders to provide the pattas to them.
The officials made the necessary arrangements, and housing pattas were distributed to 19 transgender persons. When Mr. Narayana inquired about the total number of transgender people across the city, he was informed that there were about 140, and he later announced that financial assistance of ₹50,000 would be provided to each person for house construction, drawn from his personal funds.
