A.P. gearing up for MPTC, ZPTC polls post reorganisation of Zilla Praja Parishads

Andhra Pradesh is preparing for upcoming local body elections for Mandal and Zilla Parishads following a recent administrative reorganization. The State Election Commission has ordered the preparation of electoral rolls to facilitate the voting process.
Why it matters
This administrative update is critical for local governance and democratic participation in the region.
The second ordinary elections to the Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies (MPTCs) and Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies (ZPTCs) in Andhra Pradesh will be conducted shortly, following the reorganisation of the State’s erstwhile 13 Zilla Praja Parishads into 28. State Election Commissioner Anil Chandra Punetha issued orders on Monday directing officials to prepare and publish photo electoral rolls for the constituencies.
The five-year terms of the existing Mandal Praja Parishads and Zilla Praja Parishads are due to expire on September 23 and 24, 2026, respectively. The election process is being taken up under the provisions of the Andhra Pradesh Panchayat Raj Act, 1994, and the relevant Electoral Rolls Rules.
Mr. Punetha directed all Mandal Parishad Development Officers to prepare and publish the photo electoral rolls of the MPTCs. Similarly, Chief Executive Officers of the Zilla Praja Parishads were instructed to prepare and publish rolls for the ZPTCs.
