Mind & Body Smoke (and vapes) and Mirrors Mind & Body Protecting WA’s firefighters Mind & Body Particle 101: Diphtheria Dr Myles Murphy set out to become a sports physio.

“At the end of my degree, I was like, research is for losers,” says Myles. “There’s no way I’m doing that, not a chance.”

Despite that sentiment, he’s an Associate Professor at the University of Notre Dame, director of a team of scientists at the Centre for Injury Prevention and Pain and a 2026 Early Career Scientist of the Year finalist.

After working with football and cricket teams for a few years after graduating, Myles went back to study a master’s in sports physiotherapy at Curtin University. This time, research wasn’t optional.

“Everyone in the cohort was dreading it – but I loved it,” says Myles.
