T aran was travelling in Himachal Pradesh with his family. They stepped out of the taxi after a one-hour drive from Kasol. They had reached Barshaini, the starting point of the Kheerganga trek. The guide took one look at their clothes and declared, “You will need warmer clothes! Raincoat? Are those shoes waterproof? Woollen socks? Gloves? It will be zero degrees in the camp.”
“Oh no,” said Amma. “We haven’t even started and it is already raining.”
The family felt grossly underprepared for the trek ahead. They rented some essentials, put on their raincoats, took up their trekking sticks and began to walk. Luckily, the sky cleared up. Soon they sighted the Barshaini dam.
