Kayode Fayemi, former governor of Ekiti, has congratulated Wole Soyinka, the Nobel laureate, on his 92nd birthday, describing him as a symbol of intellectual excellence, courage and cultural pride.
In a statement issued on Monday, Fayemi said Soyinka’s contributions to literature, human rights and democracy continue to inspire generations of Nigerians and Africans.
The former governor, who also served as chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), said he joined millions of admirers in celebrating the literary icon.
“Today, as Professor Wole Soyinka celebrates his 92nd birthday, I join millions of admirers in wishing this distinguished son of Africa a very happy birthday filled with joy, robust health, and continued fulfilment,” he said.
Fayemi said Soyinka’s friendship and support over the years had been a source of personal and intellectual enrichment.
