The Kilvelur police in Nagapattinam district seized 94 kg of tobacco products and arrested two persons on Saturday.

Based on a tip-off that banned tobacco substances were kept hidden illegally for sale, the police conducted searches in the Kilvelur area and seized 94 kg of tobacco products.

The police registered a case under the provisions of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) and arrested D. Ayyappan, 31, and S. Krishnakumar, 24, of Kilvelur.

The value of the seized contraband was put at ₹94,000, a police press release said.
