Unidentified persons decamped with 90 sovereigns of gold jewellery and ₹3 lakh in cash from a locked home in Theni district. Police said that Selvaraj, who served as Sub-Inspector of Police, had retired a few months ago and was no more. It was said that Lakshmi, 53, wife of late Selvaraj, had locked her house and had been to Velankanni with family members. Two days ago, when she returned, she found the lock broken and the valuables missing. Palanichettipatti police have registered a case and are investigating.
