Vijayanagara MLA H.R. Gaviyappa on Sunday performed the bhoomi puja for development works worth ₹8.62 crore aimed at strengthening educational, residential and drinking water infrastructure in Hosapete.

The works include construction of a post-matric girls hostel at Jambunathanahalli and an overhead water tank with a pipeline network under the Amrit Nagarothana scheme.

The post-matric girls hostel for students belonging to the Scheduled Tribes community will be constructed at an estimated cost of ₹4.55 crore at Jambunathanahalli.

The 14,000 sq ft facility is expected to provide accommodation to 150 students. The MLA said that the hostel will provide safe and better accommodation to girl students coming from distant areas to pursue their education. The work is expected to be completed within a year.
