A total of 65,401 children aged below five years have been identified in Udupi district for the Pulse Polio Programme to be held on June 28, according to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Udupi Abid Gadyal. Speaking at a meeting of the Udupi District Vaccination Task Force Coordination Committee in Udupi on Wednesday, he said the vaccination drive would be conducted from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. across the district. All children aged below five years should be administered polio drops on the day, even if they have been vaccinated earlier. A total of 665 booths, including 19 transit booths and three mobile teams, have been constituted for the programme. As many as 2,660 vaccination workers and 155 supervisors will be deployed. Mr. Gadyal said the Pulse Polio Programme was launched in 1995. He urged all departments to work in coordination to make the immunisation drive a success. Health department staff, ASHA workers and anganwadi workers should actively participate in the programme and help achieve 100% coverage, he said.
