GEORGE TOWN: A Penang ferry has collided with another vessel today, the Penang fire and rescue department said.
In a statement, the department said that the collision involved 92 passengers, with six of them severely injured and taken to hospital.
“The situation at the terminal is under control, with the injured victims having been taken to the hospital while the other passengers have left the location,” said the department.
This is the first reported collision involving the catamaran ferry service since it commenced operations in August 2023.
Separately, the Penang Port Commission (PPC) said the collision, which happened at 8.40pm, involved the Teluk Bahang ferry and a vessel named MV Mekar Jaya.
