6.2 magnitude earthquake hits Afghanistan; tremors felt across north India

An earthquake 6.2 magnitude struck Afghanistan on Saturday, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS). Tremors were also felt across several parts of north India. The quake occurred at 7.04pm , it struck at a depth of 215 km beneath the surface, the NCS said.There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage in Afghanistan.Afghanistan is highly prone to earthquakes, particularly in the Hindu Kush region, one of the world's most seismically active areas, according to the Red Cross. The country's vulnerability stems from its location at the collision zone between the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates.
