55 sovereigns of gold, ₹3.5 lakh stolen from house in Thrissur

A major theft was reported at Koorkenchery in Thrissur after burglars decamped with 55 sovereigns of gold ornaments and ₹3.5 lakh in cash from a house in the wee hours of Monday. The theft occurred at the house of Hasan Ali at around 1:30 a.m. Hasan Ali and his family were away at a hospital where his son was undergoing a surgery.

The stolen jewellery, kept in three cupboards, belonged to Hasan Ali’s wife, daughter and daughter-in-law. The thief also took ₹3.5 lakh kept in the house for repaying a bank loan.
