As many as 502 complaints regarding the sale of narcotic substances have been received through the ‘Drug Free TN’ mobile application in the district.

Collector S. Kandasamy in a release said, of the complaints received, First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered in 54 cases and swift action is being taken. A weekly review meeting on the prevention of illicit liquor, cannabis and other banned narcotic substances is being held every Monday under the chairmanship of the Collector.

According to the release, between January and July 2026, the district police seized 354.845 kg of cannabis, 0.075 kg of methamphetamine, 1,444 cannabis chocolates weighing 7.660 kg, and 12,837 cannabis tablets. As many as 70 cases relating to cannabis were registered and fines totalling ₹22 lakh were imposed.
