The Triplicane police have recovered 400 mobile phones reported missing from various police stations’ limits in the Triplicane police district. The phones, which were traced to different States across India, were handed over to their rightful owners on Thursday.
Complaints regarding missing mobile phones were received at police stations under the Triplicane police district and entered in the Community Service Register. The Cyber Crime Wing and special teams of the Triplicane police subsequently launched an investigation to trace the devices.
As part of the investigation, police used the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal to track the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers of the missing and stolen phones. Continued monitoring revealed that several of the devices were being used in Tamil Nadu and other States.
