400 booked, 13 FIRs registered in five days for staging protests in Mumbai without permission

Mumbai Police have registered 13 FIRs and booked 400 individuals for staging unauthorized protests across the city. The demonstrations were held in solidarity with the Cockroach Janata Party's protest in New Delhi regarding alleged exam irregularities.
Why it matters
The mass detention highlights rising civil unrest and tensions between political activists and law enforcement regarding public assembly rights.
The Mumbai Police have registered 13 offences related to the protests in the city in support of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. The FIRs have been registered since July 18 under various sections related to unlawful assembly and breach of prohibitory orders. Around 400 persons have been named as accused in these FIRs.
While demonstrations were staged at various places, including Shivaji Park, Chaityabhoomi, Chembur and Shiv Sena Bhavan, no permission had been granted, an official said.
On July 19, Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray addressed a gathering organised at Shivaji Park to protest against fasting activist Sonam Wangchuk’s transfer to Safdarjung Hospital from the Delhi Jantar Mantar protest site.
