Salem District Collector K. Elambahavath stated on Saturday, (October 3, 2026) that, ahead of the Deepavali festival, ₹4.42 crore has been set as the sales target for the Co-optex outlets.

The Collector inaugurated the Deepavali special discount sale at Salem Co-optex Thangam Pattu Maligai at First Agraharam.

Speaking to the reporters, the Collector said the State government has been providing special discounts of up to 30%, for the past 91 years, during festive seasons to uplift handloom weavers and provide continuous employment opportunities.

This year, for Deepavali, new designs of Kanchipuram silk sarees with original lace, Arani silk sarees, Salem silk sarees, Thirubhuvanam silk sarees, and new designs of soft silk sarees are up for sale. Likewise, all types of cotton sarees made in the Coimbatore, Madurai, Dindigul, Paramakudi, Tiruchi, and Salem areas, as well as Kalamkari cotton sarees in elegant colours, have been kept for sale, the Collector added.
