37 rail passenger welfare associations float Federation for collective representation of travel needs
Thirty-seven rail passenger welfare associations in Tamil Nadu have formed the Tamil Nadu Rail Users’ Federation (TRUF) to collectively advocate for improved train services and infrastructure. The federation aims to partner with the Southern Railway to address passenger grievances while reserving the right to organize peaceful protests if necessary.

Rail users’ associations across the State have formed the Tamil Nadu Rail Users’ Federation (TRUF) to strengthen passenger representation.
The Federation encompasses 37 rail passenger welfare associations in Chennai, Salem, Tiruchi, Madurai, and Thiruvanandapuram divisions.
The Federation was formed at the beginning of this month for collectively representing the genuine needs and aspirations of train travellers across Tamil Nadu, Federation president N. Subramanian, and General Secretary A. Najib Isaaq Kani said.
“Our objective is to ensure that legitimate passenger demands relating to train services, passenger amenities, safety and connectivity are considered and implemented by the respective Railway Divisions and Southern Railway,” they said, emphasising that rather than confronting or opposing, the TRUF will work in partnership with the Railway administration to resolve the day-to-day problems faced by passengers, in an amicable and constructive manner.
