31 new forest fires discovered, communities evacuated
Northwestern Ontario is facing a surge in forest fires, with 31 new outbreaks reported in a single day. Multiple communities have been forced to evacuate as extreme heat and dry conditions complicate firefighting efforts.

THUNDER BAY - The number of forest fires burning across Northwestern Ontario has climbed significantly as Ministry of Natural Resources fire ranger crews continue to work in extremely challenging conditions.
For the second consecutive day, temperatures will climb into the upper 30s across the region.
With 31 new outbreaks discovered on Monday, the MNR reported 128 active fires in the Northwest as of late in the evening - 26 more than the day before - including 53 that are not under control and 63 that are being observed.
A ministry map shows the wildfire hazard is now extreme virtually everywhere north of the Ontario/Minnesota border between Lake Nipigon and the border with Manitoba, and high in other parts of the region.
