@SymondsWSWS 6 November 2026 facebook icon Three senior Indonesian police generals were arrested on Tuesday on charges of illegal wiretapping that was conducted against President Prabowo Subianto himself, as well as other politicians and top officials. The arrests take place amid a deepening economic and political crisis in the country and an increasingly public rift between Prabowo and former president Joko Widodo.
Concerns that the arrests could potentially trigger protests and unrest were underscored by the dispatch of 20,000 troops to Jakarta. While the military declared the troop movement was “routine,” the timing is hardly coincidental. It is unclear how many of the soldiers have been put on the streets.
