Why it matters
Proactive disaster management is critical for urban resilience in flood-prone Indian cities during monsoon seasons.
Excise and Prohibition Minister K. Vignesh on Monday reviewed the monsoon preparedness work in some of the most flood-prone areas in the southern parts of the city and ordered officials to expedite work on relief centres at 27 locations to help residents during the Northeast monsoon. He also directed officials to complete work in three days.
Owing to the risk of heavy flooding in the southern parts of the city, the Minister directed the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) to expedite work on water supply, toilet facilities, power, and food for residents at relief centres.
