Why it matters
This signals shifting political alliances in Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has urged Nigerians to re-elect President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, saying his administration deserves another term to consolidate its policies and ongoing development projects nationwide. Okowa made the call on Saturday at the flag-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) South-South campaign for Tinubu’s re-election in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where he described the President’s policies as transformative and capable of building a new Nigeria. He urged Nigerians to turn out en masse in 2027 to vote for Tinubu and ensure the APC and its candidates win at all levels. Okowa, a two-term former governor and current APC candidate for the Delta North Senatorial District, said he was satisfied with his decision, alongside Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, to defect from the opposition PDP to the APC after seeing the President’s credible policies and programmes to reshape the nation’s economy.
