2 workers die after falling into sea at Tuas Port

Listen SINGAPORE – Two workers have died after falling into the sea while moving cargo at Tuas Port on the morning of Sept 22.

The incident happened at about 8.40am, when the two men, aged 33 and 44, were doing stevedoring work, according to information from the authorities contacted by The Straits Times.

Stevedoring refers to the process of loading, unloading, stacking and securing cargo on ships at port terminals.

The duo were being lifted on a work platform when the platform was dislodged from a crane and fell into the sea.

The 33-year-old was immediately rescued from the sea and was unconscious when taken by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, where he later died.
