2 Canadian Armed Forces members arrested in organized crime, kidnapping probe, DND says

Two Canadian Armed Forces reservists, Sachintha Fernando and James Moreau, have been arrested in connection with an organized crime and kidnapping investigation. Both individuals have been removed from their duties pending an administrative review.
Why it matters
The involvement of military personnel in serious criminal allegations impacts public trust in the armed forces and raises internal security concerns.
The department says Sachintha Fernando and James Moreau, both members of the 7 Toronto Regiment, have been removed from duties and their access to military facilities and bases has been restricted after their arrests on Aug. 11.
It did not provide details of the specific allegations against them and referred further questions to Toronto police.
