2 AI habits that can weaken your critical thinking, according to a BCG exec
A Boston Consulting Group executive warns that over-reliance on AI tools is causing cognitive deskilling among employees. The report highlights that critical skills like problem framing and judgment are eroding as workers increasingly depend on AI-generated summaries.
Why it matters
As AI integration grows in the workplace, organizations face an existential risk regarding the long-term viability of their workforce's core cognitive abilities.
David Martin cautioned about over-reliance on AI. Boston Consulting Group BCG exec David Martin said there's an "existential risk" of people losing skills because of AI use. Half of the executives surveyed in a June BCG study reported seeing deskilling. Martin said that being unable to answer follow-up questions about material is a common indicator of deskilling. With great power comes great responsibility — and the responsibility not to deskill may fall squarely on your shoulders. While your employer likely wants you using AI , they might not be preparing you for the atrophy of cognitive skills that can come with heavy use of the tech. "There is existential risk of people deskilling themselves to the point of being unviable in the market," David Martin, Boston Consulting Group's global lead of people and organization, told Business Insider. Your boss may already be taking notice.
