The Kerala Police have registered against 2,799 people for driving under the influence of alcohol during a Statewide special enforcement drive aimed at improving road safety. The licenses of 884 offenders have been recommended for cancellation.
The special drive, titled Drive Sober - Stay Alive, was conducted across the State from August 29 to September 4 under the leadership of the Traffic and Road Safety Management wing of the Kerala Police. As many as 81,565 vehicles were inspected during the operation.
An advisory observed that driving under the influence of alcohol is a major cause of road accidents and fatalities and poses a serious risk to all road users. The special drive was carried out to identify drunk drivers and create greater awareness about the potentially fatal consequences of driving after consuming alcohol.
