2.6 million-plus MSMEs offer large scope for cleaner production, experts say

Telangana’s more than 2.6 million micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) offer significant scope for the adoption of energy-efficient and cleaner industrial technologies, experts said at the 25th CII Energy Efficiency Summit 2026 held here on Saturday.
The scale of the MSME sector makes technology adoption critical for improving productivity, reducing operating costs and enhancing the competitiveness of enterprises, besides lowering their environmental footprint, they said.
The Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), under the Ministry of Power, has identified Telangana and the Hyderabad metropolitan region as important destinations for facilitating the adoption of globally proven technologies among MSMEs.
The initiative assumes significance for energy-intensive clusters such as textiles and spinning mills, power looms, printing, pharmaceuticals, granite cutting and slab polishing, where improved energy efficiency and production processes could directly reduce costs.
