An 18-year-old college student died after allegedly coming into contact with a live wire while he was putting up a real estate advertisement banner on a streetlight near Kotturpuram in the early hours of Saturday.
The victim has been identified as Jayachandran from Tiruvannamalai district. He was a second-year student in Government Arts College and was staying at the government students’ hostel in Kabali Thottam, Mylapore. The police said he was taking up part-time work with a banner company to support his education.
According to police, Jayachandran and his friend Yuvaraj, went to Kotturpuram around 2 a.m. to put up the banner. Jayachandran climbed onto the road median and was attempting to stick the banner to a streetlight when he reportedly touched a live wire.
