14 service sectors grew in double digits in April as per inaugural Index of Services Production

India's Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has launched the Index of Services Production (ISP) to track monthly growth in the services sector. Data from April 2026 shows double-digit growth across 14 of the 19 sub-sectors, including retail and real estate.
Why it matters
The ISP provides a new high-frequency economic indicator that improves the transparency and measurement of India's massive services-driven economy.
14 of the 19 sub-sectors in the trial and inaugural release of the government’s new Index of Services Production (ISP) witnessed double-digit growth in April 2026, with the best-performing sectors including accommodation and food, retail trade, administrative and support services, and real estate.
The report is based on official government data and expert economic analysis without political framing.
