Why it matters
This tragic incident highlights issues of violent crime and the extreme measures individuals may take due to financial desperation.
A 13-year-old boy was allegedly abducted for a ransom and murdered by his neighbour in northeast Bengaluru on September 16, police said.
The accused, identified as Bhaskar Reddy, 28, has been arrested by the Chikkajala police. Reddy allegedly abducted his 13-year-old neighbour at Vinayakanagar in Yelahanka and murdered the boy near a construction site in Bagalur.
The crime came to light after his car was involved in an accident.
According to the police, Reddy had returned from London a few months ago after completing his master’s degree. He had joined a private company in Whitefield in its finance section.
A preliminary probe revealed that Reddy hatched the abduction-murder plan to demand a ransom from his neighbour so that he could repay his family’s debt, according to a senior police officer.
