126 sovereigns of gold, ₹1.60 lakh stolen from house near Tirupuvanam

About 126 sovereigns of gold jewellery and ₹1.60 lakh were stolen from the house of a government school headmistress at Jayabharat Nagar in Tirupuvanam.
According to police, Maheshwari, who is the headmistress of Konthagai Government Middle School, lives with her son at Jayabharat Nagar along Rameswaram - Madurai National Highway.
Ms Maheshwari and her family had gone out of town on Sunday (September 13) to attend a funeral. On Monday night, unidentified burglars located a hidden spare key to the house left in the house itself, unlocked the door, and gained entry into the premises.
