120-year-old Kyani cafe in Mumbai, Royal China under Maharashtra FDA's scanner; rat droppings, lizards found

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the licences or registration certificates of 30 food establishments and seized 50,601.78 kg of food products worth ₹1.19 crore during a statewide crackdown ahead of the festive season.The action was carried out between September 23 and 27, with establishments across Mumbai, Konkan, Pune and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar divisions facing action for alleged violations of food safety, hygiene and licensing requirements, the FDA said in a statement on Monday.The licences or registration certificates of 13 establishments in Mumbai, six in Konkan division, eight in Pune division and three in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar division were suspended.Several establishments in Mumbai were found with serious hygiene violations during inspections, including popular restaurants such as Royal China and the iconic Irani cafe Kyani & Co, which has been running for over 120 years.At Kyani & Co, officials found cats, rat droppings, live flies and dead cockroaches in food…
