Health Minister K.G. Arunraj has announced a ₹111-crore infrastructure package for Coimbatore, including new medical equipment, hospital upgrades, and a nursing college. The plan also addresses staffing shortages through a large-scale recruitment drive and provides an update on local dengue control efforts.

Minister for Health and Family Welfare K.G. Arunraj on Saturday (September 12) announced 15 medical infrastructure development projects and the procurement of 76 pieces of modern medical equipment, together worth ₹111 crore, for Coimbatore.
He said Coimbatore would be one of the five zonal centres proposed under the Chief Minister’s Cancer Care Mission. A new nursing college would also be established at the ESI Hospital in Coimbatore, he said.
Among the works proposed under the package are medical equipment worth ₹4.5 crore for the treatment of heart patients at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH), special care equipment worth ₹7.5 crore, and a ₹3.8-crore hostel for postgraduate students at the medical college.
A new building would be constructed at the Government Hospital in Pollachi at a cost of ₹6 crore, while the Urban Primary Health Centres at Kavundampalayam and Singanallur would be redeveloped at a cost of ₹2 crore each.
