11 refugees fleeing Tamil Nadu camps rescued by Sri Lankan Navy
Eleven Sri Lankan Tamil refugees who escaped from a rehabilitation camp in Tamil Nadu were rescued by the Sri Lankan Navy after being stranded on sandbanks. Authorities are currently investigating the illegal boat transport used for their escape.

Eleven people, including five children, who illegally escaped by boat from a Sri Lankan Tamil Rehabilitation Camp in Tamil Nadu to Sri Lanka, were rescued by Sri Lankan Navy and handed over to Thalaimannar police.
The Sri Lankan Tamils belonging to three families escaped from the camp by boat and took shelter on Sri Lanka’s 3rd and 7th sandbanks. Upon receiving information on September 5, Mannar Navy rescued the refugees and handed them over to Thalaimannar police.
Questioned by the Sri Lankan Navy and Thalaimannar police, they said they had been staying at Okkur and Anthiyur camps in Sivaganga district and set sail from Rameswaram in one boat and from Dhanushkodi in another. They paid ₹2.50 lakh for the two boats.
