The Tamil Nadu 108 Emergency Ambulance Employees Progressive Union has announced a 24-hour State-wide strike from 8 p.m. on November 3 to press for its 11-point charter of demands.
In a petition submitted to the Coimbatore Collector on Monday, the union said around 1,353 ambulances were operating across Tamil Nadu and about 7,000 workers were engaged in the service.
The demands include direct government takeover of the 108 ambulance service, regularisation of workers, implementation of a Labour Tribunal award on wage revision and bonus, and introduction of an eight-hour, three-shift work system.
