100 days of Operation Toofan marks rise in drug-related cases and fall in crimes against women and children
Operation Toofan, an anti-drug enforcement drive in the state, has reported a 19% increase in narcotics seizures and a rise in drug-related arrests over 100 days. Simultaneously, the government reported a decline in serious crimes against women and children.

The State government’s anti-drug enforcement drive Operation Toofan has completed 100 days, with official figures indicating significant results including a noticeable decline in serious crimes targeting women and children.
In a statement, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said that the number of drug-related cases increased from 9,208 to 10,301, while arrests rose from 9,947 to 11,146 in a comparison of figures from June 2, 2026 onwards with the corresponding period in 2025. In addition, 5,718 cases were registered under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA).
The seizures included 23,571.253 g of MDMA, 1,228.527 kg of ganja and 4,740.839 g of hashish oil. The total quantity of narcotics seized stood at around 1,259 kg, compared with 1,058.66 kg during the corresponding period last year, representing an increase of nearly 19%.
